What is wrong with the british film industry?
I can see why there would be many reasons to suggest that the British film industry is not that good, however, I would strongly disagree with that statement as I think that there is nothing wrong with the British film industry as I think that although we are not as big of a country when compared to America, we still do produce great films, the accents, locations and whole culture of British films are unique as the majority of films out there are American, this then adds to a quality about our films that many can enjoy and also, when made correctly, a British film can produce allot of money. Some of the top Hollywood films that have produced the most money would have come from originally being a British film, such as harry potter. Harry potter is a British-American film series and became very successful.
From the 1990’s to 2000, Compared to the 1980s, investment in film production rose dramatically. In 1989, annual investment was a meager £104 million. By 1996, this figure had soared to £741 million. This shows that even at an early stage, people saw a gap in the market for British films and therefore people invested as they knew there could be a positive outcome in money. In my personal opinion, I think that Britain can be more multi-cultural in what we watch and produce as films; this can give us an advantage over American films as sometimes they can be too self-obsessed in their own locations, accents, nationalities etc. Although there has been a rise in other backgrounds working on American films such as actors like Christian bale, but seeing as they do that on the one hand, on the other hand they make the actor appear to as how America wants him to be seen. As America has produced a staggering large amount of films, I think they are coming to a point where there aren’t that many unique films being made, all they rely on now is the big budgets being used, British films go for a different approach, even then, what could be seen as a small budget film could become quite successful, films made by Guy Stuart Ritchie who is an English screenwriter, film director and producer, best known for directing Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Swept Away, Revolver, Rock ‘n’ Rolla, Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, all these films have been fairly successful in one way or another, especially Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes is one of the unique features that many people from around the world love as it is a very strongly British cultured film (scenery, clothes, accents) and this is a British film which even consists of American actors ( Robert Downey Jr.)
Many could argue that the position that British films are in now aren’t good in comparison to America, but I think British films are a vastly growing worldwide industry which will continue to grow as i think they do aspire to reach the audience’s multiple needs in films, genres, plots, storylines, etc.

My picture
I have chosen to use this as my picture as it can mean many different things, as the sun is distant this could mean a peaceful mood and calm atmosphere, as it is quite distant this could also mean that beyond a distance there will be a positive outcome. The green scenery around the light is also relaxing and people are familiar with nature so this wouldn't be that abnormal to the viewer.
